Volunteer Tax Assistants needed in Richmond

Description:  Rubicon Tax Preparation! Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (V.I.T.A.) is a national program providing free tax preparation assistance to low-income individuals and families. V.I.T.A. ensures that low-income tax filers receive tax benefits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, for which they may be eligible. The Earned Income Tax Credit (E.I.T.C.) is the largest anti-poverty program in the United States. The E.I.T.C. is a refundable federal income tax credit for low to moderate income working households. The E.I.T.C. has been an effective tool in the fight against poverty, supplementing income and supporting economic opportunities among low-income families.

Date:  Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays beginning January 17, 2011 through April 16, 2011.

Attire: Casual.
Training: Professional training will be provided. Training dates: 12/10/2010, 01/08/2011, 01/15/2011. Trainings will be held at Contra Costal College, Diablo Valley College, and Los Medanos College.
All volunteers must attend these trainings. If volunteer feels comfortable after the first class they can read the materials on their own and take the test before the next class. If the volunteer already has experience preparing tax returns online for others or is a CPA or Accountant they can try to do the training online and take the test on line.
Other Info: We ask that volunteers devote at least 15 hours through the months of January to April.
