Kappa Sigma Relief Fund Set Up

San Jose State University officials have set up a relief fund for  the 28 residents who were displaced by a five-alarm fire at a fraternity  house early Tuesday morning.

The blaze was reported at 3:21 a.m. at the two-story Kappa Sigma  fraternity house at 168 S. 11th St.

All of the occupants made it out safely and university housing and  neighboring fraternity houses have offered temporary housing assistance to  the displaced residents.

The blaze, which was controlled at about 6:10 a.m., caused an  estimated $1.7 million in damage. The second floor was badly burned and the  first floor suffered severe water damage.

The fire also destroyed residents' personal belongings and the  university has established a fund to help them recover, university officials  said.
