New Sections of the Bay Area Ridge Trail

We follow a relatively new portion of the Ridge Trail on land owned by the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority above historic Alum Rock Park in San Jose.

The late Brian O’Neill was General Superintendent of the GGNRA for twenty-three years and was also one of the founders and long-time proponents of the Bay Area Ridge Trail.   We follow a relatively new portion of the Ridge Trail on land owned by the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority above historic Alum Rock Park in San Jose.  We hike with Janet McBride, Executive Director of the Ridge Trail Council, and learn that the trail is now about 350 miles long and growing and will someday entirely circumnavigate the Bay.  In our hike through spectacular mountain landscapes we meet Andrea McKenzie, General Manager of the Open Space Authority, and find out that this lightly traveled terrain not only soothes the human spirit but also nurtures vulnerable ecosystems all around.
