Pipe Bomb Detonated Near San Jose's Casino M8trix

San Jose police have arrested a 35-year-old man after officers said they found a live pipe bomb in his car near Casino M8trix on First Street.

James Francis Magill of San Jose was taken into custody Wednesday just before 9 p.m. near First and Matrix Drive near the airport. Police spokesman Albert Morales told NBC Bay Area that officers stopped him on a possible narcotics violation, and in doing so, found the suspicious device as they were searching his car.

The San Jose Police Department's Bomb Unit safely detonated the bomb. No one was hurt and evacuations were not required, however the street was shut down during the operation. It is unclear why Magill would have had the device. Morales said he was being "uncooperative."

According to police, Magill has no "significant" criminal record.
