Sonoma County

Sonoma County Road Trip

Explore the agricultural and open space lands whose preservation helps make Sonoma a remarkable place.

Doug journeys through parts of Sonoma County to discover the extraordinary legacy of agricultural preservation and open space expansion the people of the county committed themselves to a quarter of a century ago. That commitment allows locally-grown products and historic ways of life to survive and thrive, natural environments to be protected and outdoor recreational opportunities to expand as the county’s population and popularity as a visitor destination continues to grow. Visit a dairy farm operated by the same family for nearly 100 years. The Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District, purchased a conservation easement so the family could stay in business, pass the farm to younger generations and now produce artisanal cheese.  Watch the cheese being made and aged… and enjoy the final products.  Then take a hike or two in newly protected open spaces in the county to see wonderful vistas all around.
