South Bay elementary school students are being conned -- on campus.
In each incident, the woman apparently approached the victim and pretended to be a family friend. Police say after gaining the student's trust, the woman would take the girl's necklace off and leave campus with it.
In two cases, the woman replaced the necklace with costume jewelry.
San Jose police are investigating a series of thefts of gold necklaces. They think the same woman has hit three campuses between Oct. 18 and Nov. 8, during school hours.
R. F. Kennedy Elementary on Lucretia Ave., Washington Elementary on Oak St. and Grant Elementary on Jackson St. all reported incidents.
All of the victims were girls 6-8 years old.
Police say the woman is Hispanic, in her 30s with brown hair. She is of medium height and build. She was sometimes seen with a young boy, possibly a relative, between 3 and 5 years old.
