APPENDIX, an art exhibition at the Pacific Heritage Museum

Appendix is an art exhibition by Erina C Alejo and Diana Li, fellows of Asian American Artists Association's Emerging Curators Program. Showcasing work from ten emerging Asian American women and queer artists, the artists exhibition activates personal and intimate narratives of mental and historical trauma, while bravely reclaiming and empowering intergenerational memories as part of the world we live in today.
Within the human body and the body of a book, the appendix is considered extraneous. This is not unlike thepersonal and historical trauma buried in cultural memories. In lucid moments of stress or pain, this organ and itsunread cultural histories push their way into significance, carrying weight on an overlooked past, present and future.Revisit these moments at Appendix with the visceral and interactive poetry of Shelley Kuang, connect to the past withthe fleshdeeppaintings of Mariela Montero and see what it means to heal with PRESENT, a video installation by CeliTamayoLee.
