49er Glory Revisited Under the Stars

Relive the first Superbowl victory of the San Francisco 49ers.

The San Francisco 49ers are inviting long-time fans over to their Santa Clara training facility this weekend for a walk back in time to the glory days of old.

How far back will you be stepping? 30 years to be exact.

The team will be showing a screening of the 1982 Super Bowl XVI victory at 8 p.m. Saturday on their practice field in Santa Clara.  The event is free, but sold out. The team allotted a certain number of tickets and they went fast.

Superbowl XVI gave the 49ers their first NFL championship. Ray Wersching kicked 4 field goals and the great Joe Montana started to form his legend in a brilliant passing game that gave the team a 26-21 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on January 24, 1982.

The team is calling Saturday's  event the "Super Bowl Under the Stars."

This is a BYOB event. That's bring your own blanket. No liquor is allowed (or any outside food for that matter).

Along with a thrilling game, visitors will also get a meet-and-greets with 49ers alumni.

The team says the following players will be there:

  • Dwight Clark
  • Keena Turner
  • Dan Bunz
  • Ray Wersching
  • Mike Shumann
  • Fred Dean

And to help you realize just how long ago 1982 was, below is a YouTube posting of the half-time show from the game, featuring Up With People.
