A summer series of free outdoor movies will start this evening at Jack London Square in Oakland.
"Waterfront Flicks" will be shown on a giant inflatable screen starting at sundown every other Thursday through September 29.
The theme of this year's series is food, and each viewing will be presented by a local food-centered nonprofit with opportunities to donate goods or money.
Thursday's screening of "Julia and Julia" will benefit St. Vincent DePaul, and future screenings of "Ratatouille" and "Chocolat" will benefit Alameda County Food Bank.
Sales of beer from New Belgium Brewery will benefit the East Bay Bike Coalition.
