Flicks on the Waterfront

A summer series of free outdoor movies will start this evening at  Jack London Square in Oakland.

"Waterfront Flicks" will be shown on a giant inflatable screen  starting at sundown every other Thursday through September 29.

The theme of this year's series is food, and each viewing will be  presented by a local food-centered nonprofit with opportunities to donate  goods or money.

Thursday's screening of "Julia and Julia" will benefit St. Vincent  DePaul, and future screenings of "Ratatouille" and "Chocolat" will benefit  Alameda County Food Bank.

Sales of beer from New Belgium Brewery will benefit the East Bay  Bike Coalition.
