Tenacious D replaces hip hop trio at Outside Lands

Jack Black's acting skills will be on display on stage at the Outside Lands Festival as he tries to impersonate the Beastie Boys.

The funnyman's rock 'n' roll group Tenacious D will replace the Beastie Boys at the San Francisco festival on Aug. 28 through Aug. 30. The Beastie Boys had to pull out of the festival after member Adam Yauch's doctors found a cancerous tumor.

The rock duo offers a distinctly different style than the Beastie Boys but they have a cult following of sorts for their zany antics, their blend of music and humor and for staring in their own movies. They haven't dubbed themselves the greatest band on Earth for nothing.

The festival will also feature Pearl Jam, Tom Jones, Incubus, Dave Matthews Band, M.I.A., Modest Mouse, the Black Eyed Peas and more.
