San Jose Airport Swings Open Security Gates

Looking for something fun to do next weekend?

The Mineta San Jose International Airport is ready for its close-up and will open the doors to the public next weekend for a tour.

San Jose's $1.3 billion renovation all but complete and on June 26 and June 27 you won't need a ticket in order to see what your tax dollars bought us. Next Saturday and Sunday, the public is being givin the unique opportunity to get through security without a ticket in order to see the new terminals.

Airport officials were able to get special clearance with TSA in order to give everyone the chance to see the billion dollar transformation of both Terminals A and B.

You have to jump through a few security hoops in order to get to the open house, including registering in advance with at this Web site.  The numbers are limited and you have to be registered by June 23.

Once inside, you will be able to walk the length of the new Terminal B as well as the completely remodeled Terminal A without any carry-on bags.

All of the restaurants and shops will be open for you to stop by and have lunch or pick up a souvenir.

There is also a lot of great art to take in.

This is one of those rare project everyone can be proud of.  It is ahead of schedule and under budget. 

The new terminal will be in full service for paying travelers Wednesday June 30.
