Jama Juice Shakes Up Food Offerings

The smoothie seller will begin offering sandwiches and salads

Jamba Juice will soon sell sandwiches, flatbreads, and salads in addition to their smoothies. The move is an attempt to revive the Emeryville, Calif.-based chain's declining sales, say company officials.

The food will be sold in 222 California locations beginning next week, with national distribution occuring over the next year. Some California locations offered similar menu items for the past few months as part of a test phase.

Each item is priced for $5.50 or less. Jamba executives say the move was driven by research that showed customers wanted to eat food with their smoothies, requiring them to go elsewhere to complete their meal.

No word on whether or not the company will one day market a sandwich smoothie.
