City Will Have to Decide If It Wants Chipotle With That

Is a Chiptole as desirable as a Pizza Hut?

That is what the City will have to decide as the chain Mexican restaurant asks for permission to open a new store in San Francisco where a Pizza Hut once stood.

Operators want to open a Chiptole in Lakeshore Plaza Shopping Center on Sloat Boulevard.

But to do so will have to get special permission to operate under San Francisco's voter-mandated formula retail laws, which requires any chain store or restaurant with 11 or more locations to earn community and city support before opening.

The San Francisco Planning Commission will hear the restaurant's argument on Sept. 16.
