Get Drunk Tonight, Get Your Free Cab Ride Here!

Three Bay Area cab companies are offering free taxi rides home this New Year's Eve for people who get too drunk to drive.

The "Safe and Sober Free Cab Ride Home” program will be offered in Alameda, Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco.

Veterans cab and Yellow Cab of Alameda and Luxor Cab of San Francisco are offering the service.

Berg Injury Lawyers is teaming up with the cab companies to sponsor the free trips from 10 p.m. on Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.

To request a free cab ride home within Alameda, Oakland, and Berkeley city limits, people can call Veterans Cab at 800-281-4488.

To request a free cab ride home in San Francisco call Luxor Cab at 415-282-4141.

Rides are provided to an person's home -- not to other drinking locations, the cab companies said.

Due to the high number of ride requests on New Year’s Eve, rides cannot be guaranteed for everyone who calls. However, every attempt will be made to accommodate everyone who requests a ride home, the companies said.

The free cab ride program started in 2004, according to Berg Injury Lawyers.

The company said the program is part of an attempt to raise community awareness of the dangers of drunk driving.

The company said the program has been successful in reducing the number of alcohol-related deaths and injuries over the years.

In 2004, the program was a recipient of a Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Alameda County community service award.
