NY Lamb Takedown Comes to San Francisco

After a seven-year stint in New York, Matt Timms will bring his Lamb Takedown cooking competition to San Francisco on August 8 at Thirsty Bear. A $15 admission gets a taste of all 20 entrants. A flyer promises "free lamb swag for all."

The selected competitors (sign up on the official site) will receive 15 pounds of lamb in the cut of their choice (shoulder, shank, leg, or ground) to use, courtesy of his sponsor the American Lamb Board. Winners will receive prizes such as Microplane graters, Analon cookware, and Wusthof knives.

Timms says he encourages cooks or "chefs not chefs" of all levels to enter. He also tells us that, while he's only been here once, he knows that San Francisco is a seriously "varsity food town" and he can't wait to see what happens to the poor lambs here. We do hope that local competitors forgo past Takedown ideas like lamb cupcakes and lamb chowder. [EaterWire]
