1) West Portal: We commence this edition of the Report in the most unlikely of places: West Portal. Coming to the main strip is a Japanese hot pot joint called Bay Shabu, and in anticipation of the opening, idiot Yelpers are already drawing pictures of shabu shabu and chopsticks with their keyboards (28 people thought it was cool). 2) Embarcadero: Lest everyone get too caught up in La Mar Mania, we'll remind you that Lettus is moving in at Pier Three. The space is an eclectic one; it's divided in two by a pedestrian walkway, meaning the north half will be a full-service resto and the south half will be a quick-service cafe. Looks like a full build-out will be required. [PRE-PLYWOOD]
3) Financial District: While the old tenant of 185 Sutter Street, Perry's, sets an opening date in its new Steuart Street digs, the new one, Midi, is much farther off. Joie de Vivre's "California brasserie" still very much in the throes of heavy construction and should make a few more appearances in the Plywood Report over the next few months. [PLYWOOD]
4) The Mission: A tipster sends along word that there's shiny new signage up at Sushi Bistro on 24th Street. It's only a matter of time before trendy sushi hits 24th Street. [SIGNAGEWOOD]
5) West Portal Bonus: Not even the outer reaches of the city are immune to the froyo plague. In accordance with its website's future locations, Tuttimelon has got signage declaring its "Tuttiliciousness" is coming to the old Plain Jane spot at 44 West Portal. [PLYWOOD]
