Financial District: The financial turmoil at Aqua has been well-chronicled in the last few weeks, so the cat's already out of the bag, so to speak. While there's obviously no confirmation on this coming from the restaurant itself (now or ever), we've heard from several solid sources that the strong majority of the Aqua BOH—think 80-90% of the entire kitchen staff—has put in its walking papers. In other words, it's not just an exit by Ron Boyd as previously reported, but a mass exodus of sorts on California Street, which would explain the urgency in job ads like this.
In this day and age, there aren't too many reasons for aspiring chefs to leave a fine dining institution with two Michelin stars, especially en masse, but we'd venture a safe bet that money—or rather, lack of it—just might be a factor. More info as it comes in...
