Stay Classy San Francisco

Where else would a passionate group of sports fans do an immediate about face in the midst of battle after pushing the line too far?

San Francisco really is a great city.

Where else would a passionate group of sports fans do an immediate about face in the midst of battle after pushing the line too far?

Here's the back story: Nova Bar and Restaurant, located a stones throw away from AT&T Park, put up a sidewalk sandwich board that read: "Josh Hamilton Drinks Free" Wednesday ahead of Game One of the World  Series.

But after some people took offense to the sign -- including our sister station in Dallas -- the bar decided not to mess with Texas, and took it down.

Not the classiest move by a normally classy city. Hamilton is the Rangers' slugger who almost threw away his Mickey Mantle-esque skills with a well documented struggle with alcohol and drug abuse.

Nova says quirky messages on the sandwich board are part of the restaurant's normal shtick and no offense was intended.  A Nova employee said he only has respect for Hamilton the player, but added that Nova is a bar. Alcohol jokes come with the territory.

The owner was even on a Dallas area radio show Thursday and had a "good" and civil discussion with the DJs.

Now try getting New York to apologize for spitting on your ace pitcher's wife. Actually while we're at it Texas, why not tell your reporters, and Hamilton himself,  to take it easy on portraying our entire city as a bunch of slacker potheads.
