The Washbag Finally Reopens

A new month means new openings. Spot a newbie that we missed? Let us know.

1) North Beach: At long last, open right this second for the first time since December 2007 is the Washington Square Bar & Grill, now under the control of the Tiernans. The decor is very similar, the menu is very similar, bartender Michael McCourt is very similar, and as we speak, the place is full of old regulars in search of an early afternoon buzz. Welcome back, all. 1707 Powell Street, near Columbus; (415) 433-1188 [EaterWire]

2) Noe Valley: Speaking of much-anticipated (and much-delayed) openings, tomorrow will see the debut of Brett Emerson's Contigo. The Bunrabs have a pretty good report from the soft opening preview, so we'll refer you that way. Also, the Spanish/Catalan menu is up on the official site; reservations only for parties of six or more. 1320 Castro Street, between 24th and Jersey; (415) 285-0250; website [EaterWire]

3) Russian Hill: The froyo joints keep ... on ... coming. The most recent entry is another Tuttimelon outpost, this time on Polk Street. If we count correctly, this is either the fifth or sixth Tuttimelon location in San Francisco alone; we kinda lost track. 2125 Polk Street, between Broadway and Vallejo; (415) 939-5600; website [EaterWire]

4) The Mission: Everyone's favorite Mission blog has the scoop on a new, unique cafe called Caffeinated Comics: "Caffeinated Comics is a cosmically cool café where coffee connoisseurs can consort and connect with comic book collectors in a cozy internet café with free WI-FI." Bonus: they serve Four Barrel coffee. 3188 Mission Street, at Valencia; (415) 829-7530; website [MM]
