At about 9 p.m. Sunday, a shooting ended with the death of a woman outside the Ruby Skye nightclub just blocks from Union Square.

A woman is dead and several other people are recovering after two seperate shootings outside San Francisco nightclubs -- just the latest in a string of violent incidents in the City over the past several months.

Two women were shot outside a South of Market nightclub early Monday morning just hours after the fatal shooting happened blocks from Union Square.

The shooting unfolded at just before 2 a.m. in an alley near the 1015 Folsom club at Folsom and Harriet streets, although it is unclear if the two female victims had been inside the club, San Francisco police Sgt. Troy  Dangerfield said.

Both women were shot in the torso and were taken to a  hospital for treatment and are expected to survive.

Hours earlier, at about 9 p.m., another a shooting ended with the death of another woman outside the Ruby Skye nightclub just blocks from Union Square Sunday night.

The other two victims, a man and a woman, were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Investigators are still searching for clues and collecting information but the nightclub did not play a role in the violence because it was closed Sunday, police said.

San Francisco police say they don't believe the shootings are related.

The violence underscores the effort City leaders are making to try and clean up the streets, especially outside bars and nightclubs. Mayor Gavin Newsom is expected to sign an ordinance next week that will make it easier for the Entertainment Commission to shut down troubled night spots.

Last month, there was a fatal shooting at Mission Bay nightclub and six months ago, another person died outside the Suede nightclub near Fisherman's Wharf.
