Haight Street Whole Foods Gets a Check Out Date

The Whole Foods coming to Stanyan and Haight streets in San Francisco is scheduled to open before the December holidays.

The project involves gutting the former Cala foods to create a "small format" version of the natural, organic grocery chain. You'll remember the original mixed-use design proposal was scrapped about a year ago.

The first plan for the project involved a full-on "smart growth," condo-laden building that developer Mark Brennan said neighbors should have "begged" to have built, and that later was canceled due to what Brennan called exorbitant city fees.
