New Housing Numbers Released for Bay Area

A real estate tracking firm says home sales in Northern California only saw a slight uptick last month as the boost from the federal tax credit for first-time home buyers faded.

San Diego-based MDA DataQuick says June sales rose 1.3 percent in the nine-county San Francisco Bay area, with nearly 8,400 homes closing escrow compared to about 8,300 in May.

Last month's sales were the third lowest for a June since 1995.

During that period, the median price paid for all new and resale houses and condos was $410,000. That's the same as in May but up 16.5 percent from June 2009.

While this year's median home prices have consistently improved over last year, June's median price is still 38.3 percent below the peak of $665,000 in June 2007.
