Renter Relief: Prop M Approved

Another victory for the city's embattled renters that we were absolutely remiss to not mention last week. Proposition M allows for the "quiet enjoyment" of ones rental property as a service included with ones rent, prohibiting harassment by the landlord. Seems like a no-brainer, but said harassment need not be blood and feces smeared on your door -- it can also include untimely repairs, refusal to accept lawful rent payment, plus the usual fraud, intimidation and coercion. Prop M allows tenants to take these complaints to the Rent Board for a reduction in rent instead of waiting for the violations to pile up so high they warranted a visit to Civil Court. Congrats, non-owners.
