Ice Skating Could Take Center Stage in the City

Roller Derby could be the big benefactor of the City's ongoing quest to increase its revenue.

San Francisco's Recreation and Park Commission will hear a proposal Thursday to install a seasonal ice skating rink -- and possibly a year-round in-line skating rink -- in front of city hall.

United Skates of America, which owns and operates skating rinks across the country, wants to install the blast from the past on Larkin Street in the Joseph L. Alioto Performing Arts Piazza.

The commission will hear the proposal at its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday but the San Francisco Examiner points out that the rinks path to city hall could get slippery because of a recent debate about whether the space would conflict with city institutions such as the Pride Parade.
