Its turns out not can fast food be bad for your health, it can be bad for your local bay.
A study by the national organization the Clean Water Action found that some of the worst offenders of trash in the bay are some of our favorite chain restaurants.
The first-of-its-kind study points the finger specifically at the likes of McDonald's, Burger King, Starbucks, Wendy's, Taco Bell, 7-Eleven and Walgreens.
How the trash ends up in the bay is really quite simple, according to the group. It says wrappers and left over residue from these restaurants often makes it into Bay Area streets and that in turn finds its way into the bay.
Volunteers sorted through hundreds of pieces of trash at six different Bay Area streets, three times to chronicle the types of litter.
The one item that showed up more than corporate food labels was cigarette butts. So much so that the group stopped counting how many there were.
