Retired Basketball Legend Causes Mass Shoe Hysteria

Even in retirement basketball legend Michael Jordan can cause a ruckus.

Temperatures dipped into the overnight in the Bay Area but it wasn't cold enough to keep some determined shoppers from sleeping outside -- for a pair of shoes.

But not too cold to get your hands on some Air Jordans.

Nike's newest shoe appears to be a slam dunk with shoppers who lined up overnight at the Walnut Creek Nordstorm to get their hands on the shoes.

The Air Jordan Space Jam Retro Eleven shoes went on sale at 8 a.m. Wednesday. While there were only about 20 people waiting in Walnut Creek, police had to be called to a mall in Sacramento to break up a crowd of more than 1,000 shoppers willing to drop $175 on a pair of shoes barring Jordan's silhouette.

And there were a lot of disappointed shoppers. Nordstrom said they had fewer than 50 pairs in stock.
