Bay Area Crowned King of Electric Car World

The future is all about electric cars for Bay Area cities.

Mayors from San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland announced a new partnership to make the Bay Area the electric car capitol of the U.S.

At the same time an electric car company, Better Place, announced it will roll out it's fleet in California first in 2010, with the Bay Area as the first stop in the state, then to the rest of the nation.

Mayors Gavin Newsom, Chuck Reed and Ron Dellums revealed the nine step plan, which kicks in next month. It starts off with speeding up the permit process to get electric car charging outlets throughout the Bay Area. Then they will push government agencies to convert their fleets to electric and provide incentives for employers to install charging stations near the workplace.

The plan comes with the endorsement of Governor Schwarzenegger who said this type of partnership between the private and the public sector is how the state can fix the environment and the economy at the same time.
