Where Is a Worthy Competitor to the iPad?

    The Best Places on Earth

It's been 131 days now since the iPad's April 3rd release, and no one has stepped up to the plate to take it on. HP was supposed to come out swinging with the Slate, but the company's canceled it once and mulled over it ever since. Likewise, Microsoftditched its plans for an awesome two-screen tablet.

So, is there hope on the horizon? I don't know if I've got good news, friends. Technologizer's Harry McCracken has compiled a

    list of 32 tablets

on the horizon that come in all shapes, sizes and prices.

The problem? None of them stand out. Even Toshiba's Libretto W100, which mimics the two-screen designed that intrigued us about the Courier, loses its oomph when you see it could cost over $1,000.

What we need is something that takes on the iPad in the same way that the Nexus One bloodied the iPhone's nose. It didn't slow the iPhone down too much, sure, but it showed that the iPhone wasn't the only touchscreen handset option in the game that did it right, and now we've got worthy iPhone competitors in phones such as the Droid X.
