Body Found on SJ Street

Police believe a pedestrian killed in a fatal hit-and-run this morning near Interstate Highway 680 in San Jose was dragged up to a half-mile after being struck, a police spokesman said.

A body was found at about 6:10 a.m. on McKee Road near an I-680 off ramp, Office Jermaine Thomas said. The person appeared to have been struck by a car.

The unidentified person was wearing dentures according to police.  The body was so mangled it was not clear if it was a man or a woman.

Investigators believe the hit-and-run occurred on McKee Road near Capitol Avenue and that the victim was dragged a quarter- to a half-mile  toward the highway, Thomas said. He did not know what time.

It appears that a few other cars ran over the body before police found the victim, Thomas said.

Thomas said around 9:30 a.m. that the northbound and southbound off ramps from I-680 to McKee Road would remain closed for several hours. Only  the northbound off ramp to eastbound McKee Road had been reopened, he said.

The California Highway Patrol is assisting with traffic control, CHP Officer Aaron Quistad said.
