The DUI stats are out from the holiday weekend.
The CHP says it saw an increase in drunk driving arrests this year over last year.
The final numbers show here in the Bay Area 278 people were arrested for driving drunk compared to 243 arrests last year.
Statewide 1,546 people were arrested for DUI compared to 1,461 arrests for the same time span last year.
The number of checkpoints and officers on patrol were the basically the same so it looks like the number of people intoxicated behind the wheel might in deed have been up slightly this year.
There was one DUI fatalities on Bay Area roadways this year. Last year five people died as a result of a DUI crash on CHP-patrolled roadways.
