Man Hit By BART Train Remains in Critical Condition

A man in a wheelchair who was hit by a train Saturday afternoon remained in critical condition Monday, Eden Medical Center spokeswoman Stacey Wells told Bay City News.

The man has been identified as 64-year-old Curtis Fuller.  BART spokesman Linton Johnson told Bay City News Fuller was making an adjustment to his wheel chair when one of his wheels fell off the platform. That sent Fuller onto the tracks where he was in turn run over by a six-car Richmond-bound train.

This all happened just before 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Hayward BART station.

Fuller was pinned for a time.  Emergency officials said he was breathing, but unconscious when they removed him from the tracks.

During the rescue, investigators said they found a handgun among Fuller's belongings, but were not sure who the gun belonged to.

Johnson said again Monday, BART police were still investigating the origin of the gun.
