Why Did the Crane Cross the Road

BART crews are warning drivers about a traffic hazard come Friday morning in Fremont.

Stevenson Boulevard will be shut down for four hours starting at 9 a.m. so that BART can move a 50-ton crane across the road.

The closure is set to begin at 9 a.m.

BART describes the move as a "walking crane" and since it weighs 100,000 pounds it is going to take awhile.

The crane is being put in place to help excavate a portion of the future Warm Springs BART extension.

Traffic control measures will be in place at Stevenson, which will be closed to pedestrians and cars.

BART expects to open Stevenson Boulevard by 1:30 p.m.
