Round 2 of the series of Bay Area storms through Monday is expected to hit Thursday evening and last through Friday morning. Round 2 is expected on Saturday.

That is why Elaine and Ramone Ware of San Jose picked up a few sandbags early Wednesday, to prevent water from leaking into their home.

"The back patio water rises up to the slider door," Ramone Ware said. "We're just taking one layer to keep water out of of the TV room."

The Bay Area storm, dubbed round No. 1, made its way out of the region by lunch on Wednesday and wasn't as bad as many had predicted. But there is more to come.

NBC Bay Area meteorologist Christina Loren outlined what's in store for the next system.

  • Thursday: Starting about 4 p.m., areas north of the Golden Gate Bridge should get moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds.
  • Friday: Starting about 5 a.m., the Peninsula and East Bay should receive moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds. In the South Bay, the brunt of the storm should move in between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. By 1 p.m., the showers will lighten up.
  • Saturday and Sunday: More rain.
