You might be rethinking that position once you watch just-released video showing what it's like to be out in the Pacific Ocean during high surf.
The attached clip is four minutes of pure hell. Just watching it can make you feel queasy.
It was taken last week before the big storms hit off Bodega Bay. It was a day of heavy surf, as you can see from the video, but the skies were clear. Things only get worse when the crew takes off in the eye of the storm.
Coast Guard Station Bodega Bay used the churning waters as a training guide as they constantly prepare to rescue people who get in trouble. It is one of 20 designated surf stations across the country where crews specialize in conducting search and rescue mission in heavy weather and high seas.
The Coast Guard reported a safe week out at sea even with all the wild weather.
Most of the coverage of this week's storm has been about the effects on land. Down trees, falling bluff and flooded streets are what most of us think about when we talk about this week's rain.
But all five of the recent systems got their strength off the Northern California coast and its the job of the Coast Guard to keep that area safe, just like it is on the shoulders of the CHP to keep drivers safe.
