El Niño Threatening to Put a Damper on Super Bowl 50

When Levi’s Stadium was selected to host Super Bowl 50 back in 2013, no one knew 2016 would be an El Niño year.

Now we know, and the odds of rain falling before, during and right after the big game are looking good as El Niño tends to bring the most rain, on average, during the month of February, according to NBC Bay Area chief meteorologist Jeff Ranieri.

As of now there is no exact forecast showing rain during the upcoming game, but with the way the Bay Area weather pattern is trending, anyone who’s headed to the big game – or surrounding events – should plan on at least the possibility of rain.

The next series of storms is anticipated to start late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
