Weather forecasters say big surf, rain and snow are heading toward California, including the first significant storm predicted for the southern half of the state since early this month.
Breakers up to 25 feet are predicted for parts of the Mendocino coast, with not quite as big - but still double-digit heights - south through the San Francisco and Central Coast regions. Waves up to 9 feet are expected near Los Angeles.
Heavy surf could spell more trouble for Pacifica, south of San Francisco, where the ocean and rains have eaten away coastal cliffs. On Monday, officials tagged an apartment complex of about 20 units as unsafe.
Southern California could see weekend rain totals from a half-inch to 3 inches and up to 2 feet of snow in the mountains.
