Storm Knocks Out Power to Thousands

More than 5,000 people are still without power from outages that  left as many as 33,000 customers in the Bay Area in the dark this weekend, a  utility spokesman said.

Crews are working to restore service for these 5,000 Bay Area  residents, including some who have been without electricity since late  Saturday night, spokesman J.D. Guidi said.

As of 1:30 a.m. Monday, there are 4,000 outages in the North Bay,  half of which involve Angwin customers who have been without power since  about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Guidi said.

A broken pole that caused the outage in Angwin is being repaired  and PG&E expects service to be restored around 3 a.m., he said.

Other North Bay customers should anticipate service to be restored  later this morning or in the early afternoon, Guidi said.

Crews are working to fix a failed transformer that left about 660  East Bay customers in Fremont in the dark, he said. Power is expected to be  restored by 9 a.m., Guidi said.

There are 150 outages in the South Bay, with about 100 in Los  Gatos, he said. PG&E estimated service would be restored by 8 a.m.

Along the Peninsula, in Moss Beach and Pescadero, about 140 people  are without power, Guidi said. Service is estimated to be restored by 8 a.m.,  he said.

Ninety customers in San Francisco are without service because of a  failed transformer impacting the neighborhoods of Sunset, Haight-Ashbury and  just west of Twin Peaks, Guidi said. San Franciscans can expect power to be  restored at about 3 a.m., he said.

Nearly 600,000 PG&E customers have been affected by power outages  this weekend, ranging from Eureka to Bakersfield, Guidi said. As of about  1:30 a.m., about 50,000 were still without electricity, he said.
