San Bruno is asking the state to force Pacific Gas & Electric Co. to release tens of thousands of emails between the state's largest utility and state regulators.
In November, an NBC Bay Area investigation uncovered apparent violations of state law at the CPUC for undisclosed money the regulator requested from PG&E.
The San Francisco-area suburb of San Bruno filed the requests Monday with the state. San Bruno is asking officials to compel PG&E to release 65,000 emails between the utility and the California Public Utilities Commission. The request stems from a 2010 PG&E pipeline explosion that killed eight people in San Bruno. San Bruno city officials charge cozy relations between the utility and state regulators contributed to the blast.
PG&E spokesman Keith Stephens responded to San Bruno's filing by saying the utility will comply with any request from regulatory officials.
