Jefferson Starship Headlines New Rrazz Room

Classic group plays Jan. 17-20

This week, classic San Francisco rock band Jefferson Starship plays four nights at the Rrazz Room, appearing January 17-20. The lounge recently moved from its longtime home at the Hotel Nikko into the complex at 1000 Van Ness amidst a lawsuit accusing its former host of racism.

Jefferson Starship has had a long and varied history since forming in the 1970s, with past members including the late Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia, crooner David Crosby, drummer Mickey Hart, and the iconic female lead singer Grace Slick, who played in Jefferson Starship's predecessor, Jefferson Airplane. The current lineup features founding members Paul Kantner and David Freiberg with Cathy Richardson (who joined in 2008), longtime players Donny Baldwin and Chris Smith, and new guitarist Jude Gold.

The band plans to perform Jefferson Airplane's 1967 album Surrealistic Pillow as well as hits like "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit." A related band, Quicksilver Messenger Service, finds its own special tribute as Freiberg and wife Linda Imperial open the show with their new band Imperial Messenger Service. Tickets are $55-65 and available via Vendini.
