North Beach NIMBYs be damned! Turns out punks can get their shit together. After a year on the sidelines, a plan to rename Rowland Street "Dirk Dirksen Alley," after the late famed fighty local club promoter, is back on track -- it will be going before the Rules Committee tomorrow for approval. The alley is by the former punk venues Mabuhay Garden and On Broadway that Dirksen booked with up-and-coming acts. But what of Rowland's current residents? Big shocker: they're not so pleased to be living in gutterpunk history. As Dirksen might say: tough shit.
