A 64-year-old man was struck and seriously injured by a car that then fled the scene in Fremont early Thursday morning, according to police.
The hit-and-run occurred sometime between 5:30 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. at the intersection of Fremont Boulevard and Central Avenue, police said.
The victim, a Fremont resident, was walking to a nearby bus stop on his way to work and was crossing east in the crosswalk on the north side of the intersection when a vehicle turning left onto Fremont Boulevard struck him, police said.
The driver did not stop or try to contact the victim after the collision. He was described as a man around 25 to 30 years old who was driving an older-model maroon or burgundy import vehicle that likely has minor damage to the left front corner, police said.
The victim suffered a major head injury in the collision and was taken to a hospital by ambulance. He was in stable condition as of late Thursday morning, according to police.
