Woman, 81, Killed Crossing Street in San Jose

An 81-year old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday morning in San Jose, according to reports.

The pedestrian, who is unidentified, was crossing the street near Regional Medical Center when she was hit by a 1993 Toyota Tercel at 6:20 a.m., according to the San Jose Mercury News.

The woman died on the scene. The driver, a 50-year old San Jose man, stayed on scene and cooperated with police, the newspaper reported. He was reportedly not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The roadway at N. Jackson Avenue was closed until noon. The incident is still under investigation.
