A spreading house fire triggered anxious reminders of the deadly 1991 firestorm, which consumed thousands of homes and apartments.
A 2,000-square-foot house in the Oakland Hills was damaged by fire Tuesday.
The Piedmont Fire Department responded to reports of a structure on fire in the 100 block of Nellie Avenue around 2 p.m. When they arrived, fire officials say, high winds had helped spread the flames to neighboring homes on both sides of the burning structure.
The Oakland Fire Department was called to help battle the blaze.
In all, three houses were damaged.
No one was injured in Tuesday’s fire, and investigators haven't yet determined the cause.
Piedmont Fire Chief Warren McLaren said this is the first fire in the area since the devastating Oakland Hills firestorm of 1991.
A fire weather watch has now been issued.
