Barcodes to Microchips at San Francisco Library

The San Francisco library’s plan to microchip books is apparently back on the front burner. It’s been more than a year since city leaders first presented a plan to replace the current barcode system. Critics raised privacy concerns although many other libraries use similar technology. The San Francisco Examiner reports that the library has now budgeted $3.5 million for the conversion. The plan will be discussed at a meeting Thursday.
