Santa Cruz County sheriff's deputies identified a body retrieved from Strawberry Beach as Shireen Ahsan, a 19-year-old student who was swept away at sea.
Ahsan, who lived in Palo Alto, was one of two UC Santa Cruz students who were caught up by a wave and thrown into the ocean by a wave on Jan. 18.
On Monday evening, a bicyclist riding along the 2600 block of Coast Road near agricultural fields saw a body on the beach at Wilder Ranch State Park and notified deputies, sheriff's Lt. Bob Payne said.
Ahsan had been with 25-year-old Solaiman Nourzaie of San Jose, university officials said.
Friends and family held a vigil for the students last week.
A program to remember Ahsan is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the university's Namaste Lounge at College 9/10 in Santa Cruz. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Los Gatos Memorial Park in San Jose.
