Concussion Worries Continue for Bay Area Athletes

Back to school means back to the sporting field for thousands of high school athletes. Marianne Favro reports.

Back to school means back to the sporting field for thousands of high school athletes.

Many of them will get concussions.

Now, students can get help at UC San Francisco's concussion clinic.

One patient is Garry Lee, 18, of Hillsborough, who suffered a concussion playing basketball last season.

Lee is being treated by a team of doctors, including neurologists, sports medicine experts, orthopedic surgeons and cardiologists.

Most of the patients who come here have had symptoms such as headaches and dizziness lasting more than six weeks.

Doctors said it is important to treat concussions immediately.

Too often young athletes push through the pain and symptoms can linger or get worse.
