Deputy Injured, Female Suspect Shot in Officer-Involved Shooting in Santa Cruz: Police

A Santa Cruz County Sheriff's deputy shot a female suspect near Santa Cruz early Friday morning, according to sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Brian Cleveland.

Around 3:30 a.m. two deputies encountered two suspects at the end of the Ocean Street Extension in unincorporated Santa Cruz County.

The subsequent interaction led to a shooting, with a female suspect of unknown age suffering at least one gunshot wound when one of the deputies opened fire.

The other deputy was also injured, although not as a result of gunfire, Cleveland said.

The second suspect was detained and transported to the sheriff's office for questioning.

Additional details were not immediately available, but Cleveland said the sheriff's office is planning to release more information early this afternoon.
