An elderly man died Wednesday afternoon after he drove his minivan into a tree, San Jose police said.

Police still aren't exactly sure why his 2003 Dodge minivan struck a tree at Monterey Highway and Edenview Drive in South San Jose. A female passenger was taken to a hospital, and police said she is expected to survive.
