Just before midnight there was a minor explosion on the third rail at the Montgomery Street BART station which resulted in a small fire and damaged a BART car as it passed over that location. Bob Redell reports.

A smoky electrical explosion occurred just before midnight at a San Francisco BART station, prompting delays and crews to work furiously overnight to fix the problem before the Wednesday morning commute.

She said the system experienced a third-rail equipment problem near the Montgomery station that caused smoke, and crews had to single track trains while power crews worked to fix the problem.

Spokeswoman Alicia Trost said that the morning commute is fine.
