Fuel Leak in Bay Contained; Salvage Crews to Raise Sunken Boat Next

NBC Universal, Inc. A fishing boat at the Hyde Street Pier in San Francisco has sunk, officials said Wednesday.

A fuel leak that occurred after a fishing boat sank in the Bay along San Francisco's Hyde Street Pier on Thursday morning has been contained, officials with the Port of San Francisco said.

The sinking happened early Wednesday morning and involved a 34-foot fishing vessel.

At the time, one person was onboard but managed to quickly get off and call for help, Port officials said.

Following the sinking, an oil sheen was observed in the area, prompting a response from the Port, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife.

With the leak contained, salvage teams will now start working to raise the vessel, Port officials said.

According to the Coast Guard, the boat that sank is capable of carrying 260 gallons of fuel.
